Here’s a quick outline of the most useful iPhone Apps for home buyers.

Wikihood

In my opinion Wikihood is by far the most useful App available to home buyers. As a real estate professional I use it all the time. It’s listed as a ‘travel’ application but we think it’s an awesome source of information and we it recommended as a tool to help home buyers.

AroundMe

Another App you can use to gather more information about what’s around you is aptly named AroundMe.

Description: AroundMe allows you to quickly find out information about your surroundings.

AroundMe quickly identifies your position and allows you to choose the nearest Bank, Bar, Gas Station, Hospital, Hotel, Movie Theatre, Restaurant, Supermarket, Theatre and Taxi.

Domain Mobile

Domain Mobile launched in June 2009 making it the first property App to hit the Australian market.  This App allows you to search properties to buy or rent on your mobile device.

It’s hard to believe but this App has been downloaded more than 840,000 times, making it the most downloaded Australian property application.

REA Mobile

Australia’s biggest real estate website realestate.com.au (REA) was slow to release their iphone App. It wasn’t until December 2010 (almost 2 years after Domain entered the App store)  that REA finally launched it’s own mobile App. Although REA had been running a mobile version of their site for the past couple of years development of their application was long overdue.

I felt no need to download this App until a few weeks ago when I decided to review it and take it for a test drive. It took me a little while to get used to but after familiarising myself with both Apps the one I prefer is…

The REA App. It’s now my favorite for mobile search

Pros: The feature I like best is the rotate to view full screen property images. REA’s App seems faster to me than Domain Mobile (which often times out). And there’s likely to be more properties advertised on REA than Domain.

Cons: Sleek design and user interface with state-of-the-art buttons will not appeal to all. I think Domain Mobile is slightly easier to use so I’d recommend Domain Mobile to less technical folk, such as my Mum, while using the REA App myself.

State Revenue Office

This could be the most boring App on our list. But it’s an App that’ll help you a lot. It’s the first App that allows Victorians to find out what they can claim in first home owner benefits.

Find out if you’re entitled to the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG), the Victorian Government’s First Home Bonus and the Regional Bonus. The App can automatically calculate how much you may be eligible to receive from the government.
